2019 Adventures in Repacks - Part 13.1 - Straight from the Source

This will be the final (for now) posts in the SftS series. As with the first time I did this using the football cube, I'm breaking this into 4 parts of about equal sized stacks of cards.
2013 Prizm - Josh Bailey - We're off!
1995 Score - Guy Carbonneau
1996 Leaf - Jim Carey - A nice photo with a scramble in front of the crease.
2015 Star Rookies - Nicholas Petan
1991 UD - Glen Wesley
1991 Platinum - Geoff Courtnall
2016 UD - Filip Forsberg
2018 UD - Charlie McAvoy - Yup. Already stuff from this year showing up in these.
1997 Score - Owen Nolan
1990 Pro Set - Stephane Quintal
1993 Leaf - Todd Ewen - Gotta scan the back of a 1993 Leaf card.
1993 Stad. Club - Scott Mellanby
1992 UD - Mike Hurlbut - This appears to be Hurlbut's only NHL level card.
1994 UD - Peter Forsberg
1990 Pro Set - Kevin Dineen
1990 UD - Kevin Hatcher
2005 Victory - Eric Lindros
1993 Premier - Denis Savard - Even with a season and a half spent there, seeing Savard in Tampa colours is still odd.
1996 Ultra - Alexander Mogilny - This didn't have quite the level of mid 90s Ultra as did the basketball cube, but this design is still solid in hockey and have aged well.
1990 Topps - Pete Peeters
1990 Score - Daren Puppa
2006 Going for the Gold - Darren Helm
2005 MVP - Mike Grier - These MVP designs with the ever-expanding borders, not so solid, and still looks awful.
1993 Ultra - Stephane Richer
1992 Ultra - Jeff Brown
2015 Platinum - Anders Lee
1990 Bowman - Dean Kennedy
1990 Bowman - Paul MacLean
2001 Be a Player - Nick Schultz - A rookie year card of a player who had a respectable NHL career.
2007 UD - Gary Roberts
2014 Trilogy Radiant Blue - Bryan Little /169 - One of several numbered cards I'd get in this. The numbering scheme for this card? Out of 169? Nice.
1992 Ultra - Paul Ranheim
1991 UD - Jan Erixon
2010 Score Sudden Death - Mike Modano - Does a shootout goal really count as sudden death? At least it is a memorable card for Modano's final home game in Dallas.
1992 UD - Ed Olczyk
1992 Premier - Sergei Fedorov - 75th Anniversary unis.
1993 UD - Ray Ferraro
2015 Tim Horton's - Jordan Eberle
2000 SPX - Ossi Vannanen /1500 - numbered'd card #2.
1990 Pro Set - Roger Johansson
1990 Bowman - Mike Ridley
1990 Topps - Brian Hayward
1995 UD Swedish - Joakim Lidgren - Why not have a random card from a player that never played on this side of the Atlantic?
2000 Be A Player - Andrew Brunette
1992 OPC - Derek King
2012 Certified - Wojtek Wolski
1990 Bowman - Bob Errey
1992 Stad. Club - Greg Gilbert - Another anniversary uniform.
1992 Parkhurst - Alexei Zhamnov
1990 Pro Set - Stephane Beauregard
1992 Topps - Brett Hull
2000 Aurora - Viktor Kozlov - WOO-HOO! New card for me of 2/14 guy!
2001 Be A Player - Ryan Tobler
1991 Topps - Grant Jennings
1994 UD - Todd Harvey
2014 Artifacts - Andrew Ladd
1990 Bowman - Shawn Chambers
1991 UD - Mike Vernon
1990 Score - Vladimir Krutov
1991 Pinnacle French - Dave Andreychuk
1996 Score - Superstitions - Doug Weight - An insert card, that, as the nickname indicates, covers players' rituals/superstitions.
2012 Artifacts - Vincent LeCavalier
2000 BAP - Jose Theodore
2015 Platinum - Mike Gartner - Clean-shaven photos of Gartner always seem odd to me.
2004 SPA - Simon Gagne
2001 BAP - Brian Holzinger
1990 Pro Set - Bryan Fogarty
1991 Pinnacle - Frantisek Musil

2016 UD - Tyler Bozak - Part 1 ends on a Leafs card.

A really fun variety in this. A 2/14 card I didn't have? A card from the Swedish Elite League? Numbered parallels? Inserts? The only other thing I could ask for is a Sens card, but I didn't get even one of those in the entire 250 card repack. Still, another stack of cards coming up tomorrow.

Happy Wrestlemania Day!

Instead of the usual card featuring a wrestler that I do on the days of major events, here's an auto/relic of one of the voices that will be announcing the action later today. As for her auto, it has gone from really good, to really bad, so this one falls nicely in the middle.

If you're watching, enjoy the show!

Saturday Sampler

Surprisingly, my LCS didn't have any Gypsy Queen on the shelves, so I grabbed a couple other packs instead. One, I'd busted before. One, I hadn't.
Heck, one of the leagues isn't even around at this point.
And let's start with the not-even-one-and-done AAF pack. It has 9 cards and an insert in each pack. The design is nice and simple, although it can get repetitive with the small team count in the league.

Knowing my collecting habits, you'd think my favourite card in the bunch of base would be the kicker. Usually, that's true. Not this time.
And that is because Jeff Luc is a 2/14 baby. I knew because of yesterday's post that Christian Hackenberg was in this set, and he'd probably be the guy I'd admit to chasing a card of. This, was a very pleasant surprise. Jeff also has autographs in this set, so if a trade partner is looking for something to send to me in return, hook a brother up!
Here's the insert. I guess you have to reach the NFL to get your first name on your insert card. Sorry, Marvin.

Since this is pack #2 on a Saturday Sampler for me of 2019 Donruss, I'll only hit cards I didn't get the first time.
I really like the Diamond Kings this year, since the backgrounds seem to be as obnoxious as they were in 1985, even though they are re-used on multiple players. I definitely get a Perez vibe from these.
This is my first nickname parallel. Not the most creative nickname.
The Rockies love continues with a relic. Did I just send a care package to the Rockies collector on my trade list? Of course I did. I guess I'm starting to reload.

And there you have it!

2/14 Football

Off to my COMC to-be-posted box again, and a bunch of football cards, which, at least for this shipment, dwarfed all the other 2/14 goodies combined. I'm just going to go through them in the order they upload.
I'm not sure if is a good thing or a depressing one when rookie cards of a first overall pick are available cheaply.
Tanner has yet to throw a pass in a regular season game after being drafted in the 6th round last season. It is always nice to have a player to follow as the draft approaches for this collection. This year, it looks to be Mack Wilson out of Alabama, who is projected by some to go around the middle of the first round.
Oh, Christian Hackenberg. 0 passes in the NFL. At least he got to run for a TD (while throwing 3 INTs) in the AAF before getting benched prior to the whole league getting benched.
Numbered cards, along with a retro 1950 Bowman move David Garrard into the 90s with 92 cards total. He's tied for 4th among football players, along with Drew Bledsoe.
There is quite a gap between Garrard/Bledsoe and the next player on the list, with Jadeveon Clowney having 52 cards with the addition of these 4.
Also with 4 new cards is Jim Kelly, and he remains in the lead overall with 116 cards. 101 cards has Steve McNair in second place.
3rd place belongs to Alshon Jeffrey with 94 cards. The relic at the top is the only true hit in this post, even though there were a lot of numbered cards in this post. The upper right isn't a card, but a sticker, but they still count towards the collection.

And there, you have it!

PWE Chronicles: The Collector

Back to the mail bag today, and a PWE from the Collector that hit a bunch of PCs.
This was the only card that wasn't a PC card was a set-builder card for 2018 Classics. If I ranged designs from 2018 releases, this would be at or closest to the top.
A random Bills card for that collection. Nick spent a 3 years in Buffalo, and joined Miami for last season. The card is one of several where the description on the back mention Jack Nickalus is his grandfather.
Ronald Darby was a Bill for 2 seasons, before being traded to the Eagles in time for their Super Bowl winning season.
Here's another one of these "How did I not already have this card" cards for my 2/14 collection. This is my 90th card of his in that PC.
Tyus Edney is a little less numerous in my 2/14 set, but with this he's now one away from being the 4th basketball guy to cross into two digits.
Random Raptor!
Random Blue Jay!
To end the incredibly diverse PWE, here's a defensive pairing for the Kitchener Rangers from the early 80s.

And there it is! 5 PCs and a set builder all hit in a single PWE. Efficient!

Mid-Week Ice

While I didn't expect to land a Martin Brodeur patch/auto like last time, here's another box worth of Ice.
I didn't get any Sens cards this time, so here's a card from Mark Stone's new team.
That's not really the Canucks Ice Premieres card you want from this, but at least the Tuch is a decent one to land.
In contrast to the Ice Premieres card, here's a nice acetate card of a Hall of Famer.
The relic card in the box. Just a plain white swatch, but at least it is of one of the better rookies from last season.
And the auto. With the playoffs just about to start, and Tampa having an incredible regular season, that's a pretty good one. But, given that I pulled this RPA not that long ago, I probably will be keeping that Vasi auto and COMCing this one.

Decent stuff, but probably around the middle of the Ice boxes from 17-18 I've busted as a whole.

There you have it!

Raptors not Straight from the Source

Despite the majority of the cards in the repack being from eras when the Raptors were in existence, I didn't land a single card for my Raptors team collection in that. Fortunately, I had a pile of group break cards around that I hadn't posted yet. Since Toronto lacks any rookies in this years' releases to-date, they tend to be really cheap in group breaks. Low on hits, but still some nice cards.
This was the only Raptors hit in all three breaks. Throwback memorabilia basically stands for "We still have a jersey(s) around of his. Might as well use it here".
The rest of the Select cards. Some shiny, some not so much so.
You want some more shiny cards? Your wish is granted! The cards on the bottom are the base cards, which the Lowry on top is a Groove parallel, with the Danny Green being a Fractal parallel.
And the only numbered card for the Raptors comes out of the recent release of Cornerstones, sandwiching the top and bottom portions of this with players lo longer on the team.

But, there's more!

I also opted to grab the similarly-inexpensive Nets spot in Cornerstones, hoping to land a Caris LeVert to add to a future TMM mailer. That didn't work out, but I did get these.
Another base card. They gray borders look better when they're sorta the team colours.
More Allen Crabbe here, this time with the Cornerstones Cornerstones card (yes, that repetition was intentional), and one of the better designs that combine relics and an autograph. Although this probably would have looked much nicer with at least one darker swatch.
This might have been my favourite pull, since I always like getting autos of guys from the early 90s in these. Kenny Anderson was also a Raptor for a few minutes, coming over in the Damon Stoudamire trade. He didn't want to play in Toronto, so was shipped out before even playing a game.

And there you have some basketball.

One Card Only: Creeper Alert!

When Gordie isn't at the rink, you can find him hanging outside Quebec City middle schools with his bitchin' Firebird, kindly providing stubbies of Labatt's 50 to girls who that think Fu Manchus are cool.
