2014 Adventures in Repacks: Part 24

And now, the second football repack I picked up. 3 packs and a hit. The packs were 2011 Topps, 2011 UD and 2008 SP Authentic.

I'll open with the packs, and wrap up with the hit. It wasn't a bad one, and the player is newsworthy!

Deion Branch - What a photographic start to the pack! It is never too cold for football. And as someone who has frozen himself at Grey Cups in Regina and Winnipeg, it makes the live experience even more incredible.

I said the player was newsworthy. I didn't say it was for a good reason, other than creating chances for Stevie Johnson to take stupid penalties. On the plus side, it is /99, and it is also a red relic - one not really seen too often on Giants cards.

Almost 70 cards. 1 Buffalo Bills card in the whole lot. But, plenty of keepers as well for the misc. football binder. Mainly from the Topps Total for the oddball factor. The Bills ratio really doesn't get too much better in the second part of the break, but at least there will be some great photos.

Not quite dime-box goodies - Part 13

Let's wrap this 12 for $1 box up, so I can return to more important things like repacks and non-set-building trade packages.

I'm certain there are enough 1991 Score cards in existence to wallpaper every room in the country, and then some. Still, this one was my favourite from this massive set (Bo Breaker is overrated), and it is nice to have one right where it belongs - in my awesome photo binder.  A pair of Wolverines alums probably guarantees that Too Many Manninghams has several hundred of these.

Let's keep going  with a neat looking double play card. gcrl would also call this a Tatooine card. It's even moreso with the choice of borders Score used with this issue.

And one deserves another. I can't get enough appearances of Arrêt-Court on cards.

Lets' stay with the 90s, and this trio from 1997 Topps. I miss when season highlights included a description of the event on the back of the card as opposed to a checklist.

I had never even heard of the bizarre Topps Fusion set until pulling a couple from the box. One I sent off. Check the date to get  the idea that this was long ago purchase. But, here's what looks to be another pitcher on the basepaths card.

And the last card from the box that I highlight - this CanCon card.

Whew. It sure took me long enough to get through this. The fact there weren't any shows I was able to get to in February and March made things a lot less damning of my procrastination.

Not quite dime-box goodies - Part 12

Still digging through, and the end is in sight! One more post after this one and I can wrap up this box after 3 months! 9 pockets on a page. 9 cards in this post. Sounds right to me!

This card was one I was almost certain I already had. However, I wasn't certain enough to leave it in the box. At worse, it is a throw-in when I send it off to someone else. Turns out, I was wrong, as I couldn't find a second version of this card in any of my usual locations. So, this one becomes an easy addition to my awesome photo binder.

Man, Kenny Lofton had a lot of cup of coffee stops in the final third of his career. I remember he did make a stop in Philly, but the move to LA was completely forgotten. A nice cameo by John Smoltz adds to this post-slide card.

More '06 Upper Deck. I'm not to crazy about rear-view shots, but here, with it being pre/post cap tip, it works nicely as Jon gets a nice ovation from those behind the dugout.

And still another great shot from the same set. I swear that if I came across a dime box full of mid/late 00's UD, you might need the Jaws of Life to extract me.

I've said in the past that I dislike cards where the background is eliminated. But here, with the ball visible as it gently drops into Pat Burrell's glove - it kinda works.

The box had 4 2005 UD Classics cards. I got all 4 of them. I'm pleased with that decision.

Any port in a storm

One of my most wanted masks for the masks binder was a card featuring the one that Carey Price sported during the Heritage Classic. I was frequently looking through post '11 images of Carey Price cards at COMC hoping one would show up. The only one I've seen is one from last year's Rookie Anthology Great Outdoors inserts. I liked the mask, but not $7.50 liked.

Finally one showed up at a far more reasonable price.

The only problem is that it wasn't a card. It was a sticker. And it was only part of the photo.

But, as the title says, any port in a storm.

And, one Heritage Classic card deserves another, so here's Rene "What do you mean he doesn't speak French?!?" Bourque surveying the surrounding pre-game.
