Trade w/ Hot Corner Cards

Just a small trade for a Saturday evening before HNIC starts. I sent a few Tigers and some 2013 set fillers that way in a PWE and got a nice PWE in return.

I didn't bust too many Heritage packs last year. So, I didn't get a chance to come across this little gem. I added it to my Top 10 list, and it barely lasted a week before it got knocked off there. A shame he never got the chance to wrap up his career in Toronto last season, but this is still a nice farewell card for Guerrero.

After some really questionable issues from last season from Ginter & Heritage, it is nice to come across a card of his where he doesn't look like a Criminal Minds unsub of the week. Target stores have finally opened in the area, and I'm kinda curious if I can find some red bordered cards in them. I've never seen the Walmart parallels here. Maybe I will with these.

He's still hasn't been photochopped into a Marlins uniform yet!

Finally, the one insert I was looking to pull from my box, and didn't. Nice to finally welcome this into my Jays collection.

Cuz I feel like I'm 12 years old

Since my inner Beavis can't help but snicker at this guy's name. At least if the whole hockey thing doesn't work out for this chap, he could move to the adult entertainment industry and not have to worry about coming up with a stage name.

Catching up on card show hits

It has been about a month since I welcomed these hits into the binders. I might as well finally get to posting them. I pulled all of these from a $2.00 bin. Some I've already sent out to traders. Some are already in binders. But there were a handful I didn't get around to posting yet. Time to fix that. For reasons I have yet to figure out, I'm posting these in order of card thickness.

A nice rookie autograph from the Sens system. With all the injuries in Ottawa, he's been bouncing back and forth between the Senators in Ottawa and Binghamton, and putting up decent numbers in the process. And he's the only person to make the NHL that was born in Paris, France. That's 3 fewer than were born in Paris, Ontario.

I'm not a big Wings fan, but it is really hard to turn down a two-colour swatch of someone who is practically a lock for the Hall of Fame. And for a mere toonie?

A relic card of my current favourite player for 2 dollars. How can I refuse?

This is my strangest pick of the day, but I've always liked the design of the City Lights relic. The back tells something about the player's home city as opposed to the player. There's my love for 1993 Leaf shining through again.

I know there's a good # of folks out there who still love and remember the Whalers. If it isn't wanted by someone out there it will still look good in my hits binder. A nice little relic (out of 99) for a defunct team. I just wish it was a classic Whalers green swatch. If then, I'd most certainly be keeping it instead of maybe trading it.

RIP: William "Paul Bearer/Percy Pringle" Moody

The Orton turnaround

When I busted a blaster of 2012 WWE Heritage, I ended up with my promised relic card being my absolute least favourite active wrestler in the company. So, I put it up on Listia, and unloaded it to a respectable return in credit. So, what card did I turn around the credits with?

It has a small, very visible crease on it, but I can't say I care about that. It is a nice black jersey relic of a player on my collection list. A HOFer at that. A perfect addition to my Neely collection, and a great example of lemonade being made from a lemon.

Once a Trade

A couple weeks back, I sent some 2013 Topps stuff, and yet another Jenkins FDC off to Once a Cub. The return part of the trade arrived yesterday. As always, I'll blame Canada Customs for the delay, since the package was post marked on the 22nd. I'll never figure out why packages make it to stateside destinations quicker as opposed to vice versa, since the stereotype is America is more paranoid about security than we are.

Let's look at the goodies that made their way north.

NUMBER ONE AND THE BEST! What a beauty this is. A great addition to my Gary Carter collection. From the first world problems category, it's too big for the binder. Too big for any of my available holders. That means I have to head to the LCS and purchase a suitable-sized case for it.

Seriously, that could have been the only item in the package, and I would have been elated with the trade. But in the blogland, you knew there would have to be more, and there was.

A Mets flavoured Gary Carter card, all the way from Merry ol' England!

The Carter love continues with a mini! Although I did pull a Carter mini way back when in a group break, that was the regular back and this one was the Gypsy back. So, hey! Not a dupe at all! Plus, any Joey Bats is also welcome. I'm glad he'll be providing a distraction from the Mets ineptitude this season.

They say good things come in small packages, but in this case, there were some really good things in the package. Thanks for the goodies!

Masked Mondays - Week #8

Showing off another three-pack of goodies from one of my favourite binders. This is yet another threesome I picked up as part of my COMC order from back in December.

Have I expressed my love for Niittymaki's gangster themed mask before? Good. I'll do so again by showing off my latest addition of one of his cards. There is one thing that could have made the mask even better. He should have taken a page from the classic Cheevers mask, and started without any bullet holes on the mask, and had one painted on the mask every place he was hit on the mask with it. They couldn't be as detailed as the ones there, but it would be a unique look.

Jacob actually has a theme to both sides of the mask. The other side he has the Panthers logo, but he uses the Florida theme on the other side. A nice combination of both city and nickname.

Wrapping it up with a mask with a paint job that wouldn't look out of place on the cover of any 80s metal album.

Trading with the Angels in Order

Another onslaught of cards in return for those sent out during the aftermath of my jumbo box break. For a Mike Trout Chasing insert, and some random other Angels I had around, these are some of the goodies I got in return.

The highlight of the package was this. This is now the earliest Carlos Delgado card in my collection. This is a really great addition to my Delgado binder. But that wasn't all the Carlos cards that were in the package:

I still don't think I've posted half of the Delgados that were in the envelope. I love each and every card I get of Delgado when he's still in the catching gear, and the photo up against the fans is a great ones. I can't figure out why I like cards so much feature slugger-type players playing defense.

There were other Blue Jays as well, mostly of the Kaybee/Kmart variety. I particularly liked the former, since  I don't thing Kaybee ever had any stores in Canada. Bonus for the classic blue Blue Jays road uniforms.

But there were Mets as well:

Again, just a teasing of some of them. A nice variety stretching from the licensed to the very much not licensed.

Awesome, goodies! I'll have to keep an eye out for some Salmon dime box goodies when I'm at the Expo in May.

Trading with CaptKirk42

This is the follow-up to yesterday's post. As I said then, I sent a box filled with Topps stuff in his direction at the same time as the group break. What goodies would come in return? Let's see.

AWESOME! This seriously could have been the only card in the package, and I would still be elated. I do like the slightly outside the norm capitalization Lyle employs on his last name. The card was also sealed up tightly, so hopefully that will preserve the signature a little longer. So far, so good!

But there was more!

And 4 more Jays for my alphabetical binder project. I'm surprised I didn't have Scutaro already. That Topps/OPC card is the only Jays card of Adams, so that's a nice one to add. A card from Tim Johnson from his playing days is also a nice add to that binder. I was hoping the back of the card would include a Vietnam war story. Alas, no.

CaptKirk42 group break goodies

These cards came in last week - and I'm getting to them now. There wre a bunch of 2007 product in it - Masterpieces, Bowman, Heritage,Turkey Red and Artifacts.My continued promptness astounds me. I also sent a pile of 80s Topps cards in a trade, so I'll get to that element tomorrow. I picked the Jays in the break, and got randomed the Rangers, Padres and Marlins. Let's see what comes up.

This was the only hit I got. Although if I could pick a product to get the hit from - Masterpieces would be it. I'm a sucker for any type of painted card.  The player is incidental to the card.

Despite the lack of hits, I did end up with a nice trio of numbered cards.

The Jays brought a nice variety of cards in. The bottom row features 3 cards I needed players of for my alphabetical Jays binder, even though Jamie Vermilyea's time with Toronto (and in the majors) consisted of  only 6 more innings than I pitched in my career. Despite his struggles the past couple years, it's hard for me to dislike a Lind rookie.

I think I barely broke double digits in terms of Rangers cards. The highlight for them was this base card of Michael Young.

San Diego did a little better for me. A nice mix here.

I love the Masterpieces card. Cla Meredith is yet another name that makes me think of a MST3K riff. "What sort of name is Gulager?" in reference to Clu Gulager, and the fact that they thought his name during a previous episode was Gallagher. Will anybody ever be placed on Cla Meredith alert?

Wrapping it up with a pair of Masterpieces surrounding another awesome name - Taylor Tankersley. It just seems like a name for the latest talent to show up on WWE NXT to be given.
