Throwbacks!

Another trip into my COMC to-be-posted box, and some throwback jersey appearances across several sports.

Even minor league teams can break out the throwbacks, and with there being a lot fewer issues for them, there are a lot fewer chances for them to appear on cards. But here is Zach Nastasiuk sporting an Owen Sound Platers jersey in an OHL game. He was drafted by the Wings, but has yet to see a game in the NHL.

Until they go for the reverse of this with the blue-on-green design, this will have to be my choice for an appearance of the 70s Hawks throwbacks.

If you didn't have any major league team to throw back to at the time, you can always use the minor league team of the same name.

I guess St. Louis can use Browns jerseys if they want a different team, but given those can also be tied elsewhere, so the Stars from the Negro Leagues it is. And you get both the white and grey unis as well. Bonus!

The first half was pretty good with a hologram and a 2/14 card, but with 3 Bills and the Elway, the better portion for me was this one. I still have two more posts of this comprising the second half to go, which will show up sooner or later, depending on UPS.

Can I Get An Update?

After 6 days of repacks, here's some stuff that you'll have to wait to see in repack products - 2019 Update.

I grabbed a trio of hobby packs from the LCS. I won't show off all the cards, but will hit the highlights.

Pack 1:

Here's my first update card of the release. At least it wasn't one of those completely unnecessary All-Star game or Home Run Derby cards.

The only Blue Jays card in the packs, but at least it was one more than the Mets content.

While this was easily the most interesting photograph from the packs, the framing might make it one of the best photographs of the year.

Even if it is numbered all the way up to 2019, it still deserves to be highlighted as the only numbered card in the packs.

I'm going back-to-back with Diamondbacks cards in this post, since this one opened up the second of the pack.

You know I liked that Harrison card when this great photo of a throwback jersey barely registers as a contender for the best photo in the packs.

While this isn't a numbered card, this was probably the best pull in the packs, as this is one of the veteran variations. This photo can be obviously traced to the 1985 World Series, and one of the games played in Kansas City. Since that's Willie McGee sliding into third, it has to be from one of the first two games, since he was hitless in the last two. He doubled in both games, but was tagged out in the first trying to stretch it into a triple. So, this is from the 5th inning of that game.

And the reason I was so verbose about the previous card is that the final pack was really dull. Just this 150th Anniv. variation of Edwin Encarnacion stood out.

2019 Score Box Break - Part 1 of 2

At least in terms of cards, the 2019 Football season is underway! Let's start with a nice box break of 2019 Score.

I don't think an in-game photo exists of Andrew Luck where he doesn't look either terrified or derpy.

Pack 1:

And here's my first card of the season. The colour on the bottom is a definite throwback to the 1989 release, and I always like it when the team helmet is part of the design.

And here's my first Bills card of 2019's releases. It also features one of my favourite football themes - a defender with the ball.

The photo game is really strong in this year's release with a nice variety of photos. Prior to opening the packs, I figured I'd just highlight the hits and inserts through the packs, but there's enough great base stuff that deserves a spotlight here.

Pack 1's inserts. All Hands team gives another chance for there to be some great photos.

Despite most of the autos being rookies/draftees, I beat the odds to get a veteran auto in the first pack. Amendola doesn't have a lot of autographs on the market compared to most, so this is a pretty nice pull to start off.

And its inserts. The draft subset definitely has a 1998 Score vibe to it.

And here's my first numbered parallel of the box. Gaskin was a 7th round pick of the Dolphins.

There were some nice celebratory photos among the base cards in the third pack.

And your inserts. There's your #1 draft pick in insert form. They're probably (definitely) overdoing it with the foil on the signal-callers insert.

Pack 4 sees some great Bills photos make an appearance, but my favourite is the Marvin Jones as he just looks the ball into his hands.

And here's auto #2 for the box. Burns was a first round pick by the Panthers, going 16th overall.

Outstanding catches highlight the photography in the 5th pack, along with Bradley Chubb having a happy moment.

And your inserts. It is always nice when the design of the parallel matches the team colours, like with the Raiders cards. The design of the AHT card looks great with that Hopkins photo.
