2019 Adventures in Repacks: Part 33 - The Hockey Finale

Somewhat of a new design here, but a familiar repack with 16 packs.

The presence of a lot of 12-13 Score packs is familiar, but nothing really unexpected among the list of packs contained within.

That does mean 8 gold parallels. Amazingly, all 8 of these were needs in my "I've busted way too many packs of this" set "DON'T SEND ME GOLD PARALLELS" build.

Only one insert among the 8 packs - but at least it was a Sens card.

With 4 cards per pack, I might as well scan everything in the Platinum pack. A nice die-cut card with the Dionne, and a rookie card of a current Senator make this a pretty good pack. As I type this on Saturday, Duclair is coming off a hat trick against Columbus.

7 packs of flagship means I'll be getting some interesting photos, and some Sens content as well.

3 seasons worth of UD means the chance at 3 different YG designs, and I went 3 for 3. 

Each 09-10 pack contained a Victory Update card. Grabner's probably one of the better rookies in the update set. And there's yet another card for a future mailer bound for Ann Arbor.

09-10 was the season the UD added The Champions insert set to their various sets. I can break out the 'Ladies' tag for this, as I got a card of a gold-medal winning cross-country skier.

Surprisingly, the packs weren't all bent and searched before they were placed into the repack. Mind you, I'm not retiring and moving to the Caribbean on a Marc-Antoine Pouliot relic, but it was still unexpected to find this in the packs.

And there you have it!

Box Break: Leather! Lumber!

Today will feature goodies from a box of 2019 Panini Leather and Lumber. The boxes are configured oddly, with 4 mini boxes with 10 cards with two hits each in one larger box. There's lots of colour among the cards, a nice variety of inserts, and that's enough to make me overlook the lack of logos. Time to crack the boxes!

Mini-Box 1:

These are the base cards. This might be the most die-cut set out there since some of Pacific's Atomic releases which had die-cuts of the team logos in the background. Generally for these, at least with my cards, if there's a bat visible in the background, it has the bat. Otherwise, it is the glove. Starting off with some Blue Jays action with the Smoak is hopefully a good sign.

How prevalent are the die-cuts in this set? This unnumbered gold proof parallel was the only rectangular card that wasn't a hit.

A bat-themed subset is a necessity in a set that includes the word 'lumber'.

And this is taken to the point that the text on the back is about the player's bat choice.

Naturals might be the most subdued of the insert sets, at least in terms of the die-cut design.

But things pick up with the Power Alley set, and an appropriate lightning bolt.

One more Lumberjacks card before the hits, but this one is a gold parallel /99. Or a bronze. Or something.

The hits start with a pair of bat relics of Rickey Henderson. While perhaps cleat relics might have been appropriate as well, Rickey still showed enough leadoff power to also make these slivers a satisfying relic.

While this isn't the Blue Jays rookie auto that everybody is chasing, it is still a great auto for my Jays PC. And it includes what might be my first 'lace' relic in my collection. While I'll assume it came from the glove. I guess it could be a filthy shoelace. These two relics are also amazingly thick cards. To the point that they might be the thickest cards in the collection. By comparison, it would take 11 base cards from Titanium to equal the height of either of these cards. I guess that's one way to combat pack weighers.

And my first parallel base card from the break. I'd completely blanked on Adam Jones now being with the Diamondbacks until getting this card.

Some inserts sets make their return from the first pack.

But this is new! And it is a new Vladdy Sr. The design however. Wow. Placing this card into a sleeve was not easy.

Off to the hits, and they're far less bulky than the ones in the previous pack. Thankfully.

And the auto may not be a major name, but at least it is a cool name.


Pack 3:

Your base cards. And probably my first card of Harper on the Phillies, but I'm way too lazy to check how precise that statement is.

Even though I didn't land a Vladdy Jr in this box for my Jays collection, at least I landed another low-numbered Jays card for the collection. This should likely be one of the last cards featuring Pillar with Toronto.

Here are the returning inserts.

And the first of the new insert. I really like this look, with the fence and the hole design being very appropriate for a knothole themed insert set, but perhaps the image should be entirely confined to the circle?

And a fairly recent statistic gets its own insert as well.

The relic.

And the auto. There's been variety so far to what the autos have been on, with this sliver relic joining a manufactured baseball and a sticker.

Pack 4:

This was the only pack where I didn't get a numbered parallel.

Repeating inserts.

And the set's namesake insert set finally appears.

And here's some actual leather to go along with that. I do find the /174 numbering of this amusing for some reason. I guess Albies' hand was just too small to extend it to /175. But, seeing as I love somewhat outside-the-box relics, this will do nicely.

And more leather here, as the Cardinals pitcher breaks out a silver pen to sign on some leather.

There you have it! Nothing too major, but I did land some nice keepers for my Jays PC. And the colourful, die-cut designs make it a really interesting break for looking at all of the cards.

Some basketball up next, before I visit an old favourite.

New 2/14 Faces, courtesy of COMC

I've still got about 100-ish cards in my COMC box, so today I'm going to knock that down into the double digits with a 2/14 posting, and a bunch of new faces to go along with it. I've got a bunch of minor league baseball stuff as well, but this is all the other stuff.

My first UFC card! She's not a fighter, but was a round card girl at one point. She's now Natasha Kingsbury, and has a child and an instagram filled with yoga photos.

Staying in the combat sports realm, here's my first boxing card. Perez ended his career with an impressive 61-6-3 record. That's the WBC Bantamweight title across his waist.

This aren't my first cards from the auto-racing world, but these are my first of a guy nicknamed 'Banjo'.

OHL love!

This is one of the odder die-cut cards not only in my 2/14 collection, but in my binders as a whole. There's definitely a jigsaw puzzle piece vibe to it. Also, while I was updating my spreadsheets, this became the 1800th card in the collection. WOO-HOO!

Soccer additions, both from recent and older sets.

It's going to end with some cards from the other type of football. I'll assume someone with Too Many Manninghams has at least one of Walt Teninga, so this one is all mine.

My first Arena League card. Even better, Terrance Joseph is my first non-baseball perfect match in the collection, hitting both date and year with his birth date.

I'll end with a non-debut card for the 2/14, but still a first as this is my first auto of Alshon Jeffrey. There was a slight spike in his prices for autos after he picked up a Super Bowl win this year, so I'm glad to have got this before hand. Also, it represents one of my favourite releases in Field Access. Bonus!

Stacks of Wax December 2017 - Part 3 - Crown Royale Box 2

Here are the highlights from the other box of Crown.

Pack 1:

After not getting a large patch when busting my box of Prime, I guess Crown decided to make up for it with a pair of beauties. While yesterday's was event-worn, here's a game-worn patch to make up for it in all its 4-colour glory.

Pack 2:

The only base parallel I landed was this ruby parallel. Tanner Pearson was sort-of a Kitchener Rangers alum, as he was their stick boy before starting his on-ice career. When the Kings won the Cup, and he had his day with it, the Rangers dressing room was of the stops.

Pack 3:

A vet autograph! Sovereign Sigs could get sticker-dumpy at points, but at least he's still active in the league at this point. 

Pack 4:

And the final hit is my second Patrick Bordeleau sticker autograph. That's not the best ending to a box, but I won't complain with the other quality hits.

There you go! The other package is currently stuck in UPS hell, so I'll probably start on the Field Access sooner than expected.
