2017 Adventures in Repacks - Part 35 - Back Aboard The Mystery Machine

You knew I'd just have to touch the stove again.
I'll start showing off the packs contained within,
along with the mystery pack.
This was probably a step down from the previous one, as there were no Young Guns possibilities.
Getting the bad out of the way first, the bonus item? It was the exact same as the bonus item in the last one. Sheesh.
But the hit was an upgrade - a nice 3 colour patch from Panini All Goalies. AG was a boxed set with a relic included. This is not numbered, and there is nothing to distinguish this patch from the regular relic card.
I'll do the packs chronologically again. The 1999 pack landed me some nice talent among the base cards, as well as the inserts.
MVP was a solid blah, but it did give me a chance to compare facsimile signatures. Chris Campoli wins easily.
Collector's Choice wasn't too bad. Turris might have departed the Sens a couple days back, but it is still a pretty good rookie. The silver parallels of Tampa Bay cards look pretty nice when paired with the jersey logo.
Score's base was pretty good, mainly because a trio of horizontal cards allowed me to scan all 10 base cards. Plus, there's a major name with Crosby and another good rookie with Galchenyuk.
The gold parallel was a pretty good one as well. That's 11 of the cards.
And there's #12. Bordeleau isn't playing on this side of the Atlantic at this point, but at least he lasted longer in the NHL than some subjects in this set with 129 games of experience, all with the Avs.
Prizm was good for the mask binder.
The first Parkhurst pack gave me a pair of guys still active with the big club, and an insert I'd already pulled in one of the flea market repacks.
And the second did the same in terms of rookies, but paired it with a parallel.

And there you go. I think I enjoyed the first of these more in terms of the quality of the pulls, but I liked the variety here a little more.

2017 Update Blue Jays

As the title suggests, here are the Toronto goodies from a 2017 case beak of Update.
Here's your base cards. 4 of the guys with cards here were no longer on the team when this dropped, as Smith was traded, with Howell, Ohlman and Coghlan being released. Other than that, no real complaints about the choices. Even though he was no longer on the team, it was great to get a non-NOW appearance of the Coghlan dive. And you do get a nice mix of the uniforms among the cards.

Inserts ahoy.
Post-career Roger Clemens cards with him as a Blue Jay still seem strange to me, since it does seem to be the last team of the 4 you think of him playing with. But if you want an Untouchables theme, back-to-back pitching Triple Crowns qualify.
If it isn't saluting alternate jerseys, the Salute insert set really gets a Meh.
The Hit Parade starts with a manu-relic. These are an incredibly light plastic, so it doesn't feel that much heavier than regular cards.
And my first Justin Smoak hit! Although I think this is my first chance for a Smoak hit on the Jays.

And there you have it!

Uniforms of the Damned

Ah, the Mavericks one-game-and-done trash bag uniforms. They really did need at least one cardboard appearance.

Bills! Bills! Bills!

The Bills are 5-2 going into a prime-time appearance, as predicted by absolutely nobody. I'm going to enjoy the ride before the other shoe drops and reality hits, and take card of this perfect time to show off some Bills cards from a couple recent case breaks - Certified Cuts and XR.
I like the base look on Certified Cuts with the mostly full-bleed design. These are pretty much the three players you're guaranteed to see in the early releases. I'm guessing Jordan Matthews will replace him, with it being Kelvin showing up in the post-season releases. I'd love for it to be Micah Hyde.
Tre'davious White to /399. He's been a pleasant surprise as a rookie starter.
And my only hit out of Cuts was a nice dual relic. The presence of Thurman probably consigns this to the Bills binder as opposed to the 2/14 collection, but I won't complain about a nice dual relic of pair of HOFers from the good ol' days.
XR. They're shiny. Kinda like SPX from Upper Deck with the X being part of the design.
But I did land a nice parallel in this break. It scans red, but this is an orange.
One of the 3 Bills rookies that are all over this year's sets, along with the previously-seen White and back-up QB Nathan Peterman, makes an appearance on a relic. He hasn't been impressive so far, being near or at the bottom of the league so far with catches per target rate. Still, he is just a rookie, so I won't read into it too much with the team winning.
And here's Zay again. I really like this design - it makes me think of the Topps Strata design, with the acetate autograph being placed over a photo. I've got autos of the other two on the way, so at least this will be an easier season for acquiring autos of the new guys.

And there you have it!

2012 Archives - Martin Prado - And we're off!
1989 Topps - Jeff Kunkel
1988 Topps - Eric Nolte - I'm scanning this just because this makes me think of Rifftrax and their fave whipping boy - Nick Nolte.

1988 Topps - Lance Parrish
1987 Topps - Terry Kennedy
1989 Topps - Dwayne Murphy
1987 Topps - Junior Ortiz
1992 UD - Scott Bradley - UD really liked the full catcher's gear photos for Seattle catchers in 1992.

The back of it is pretty nice as well.
