Hitting The Ice

This will be the last of the LCS anniversary busts from earlier in the month.
There's 3 regular base cards per pack. I'm just highlighting the Bergeron as the first one out.
Each pack also contained a green base parallel. With only 50 cards in the unnumbered base set, they are not exactly the rarest, but you can't go wrong with a McDavid.
The Ice Permieres are technically base cards, with the numbering being higher depending on how much is expected out of the specific rookie. Batherson is a Level 2, with Suomela and Hicketts being Level 4. That's back-to-back post with /999 cards of Hicketts. That Batherson is a pretty nice addition to the Sens binder as well.
SubZero inserts return. The rookies portion of this gets the serial # treatment this season.
No relic in this, instead I got this Exquisite rookie card. Yay?
And the auto. While it isn't the biggest name, the Rinkside Signings always have a nice design with the on-acetate signature. So at least there's that.

Not the best box for the book value, but still a couple nice cards with the Dadonov and Batherson to take the regret partially away.

There you have it!

Group Break Miscellany - Part 1

This, and the next post, will highlight some cards I added to my collection through various group breaks, all random mixers, done at the LCS. I've got 5 teams worth of posts, and I'll do an east/west breakdown for them. First up will be the 3 western teams. I'm not scanning everything, just some of my favourites.
I was disappointed when this year's Ice didn't feature acetate cards for the regular base cards. But at least I got one of the acetate SPd Ice Premieres cards.
Shininess!

I did get a couple more notable Canucks cards, but those will have to wait until they've made their journey to Ann Arbor to get shown off.
Fear the beard!
A rather minimalist and illegible autograph. Maybe it is Cyrillic. Which would elevate it greatly beyond an auto of a player with 4 more games in the NHL than I.
This is certainly the biggest of the cards I'm showing off here with a couple things going for it. While it isn't the best looking signature, I can't complain with a nice 3-colour patch. My best guess is that it comes from the '3' on on one of the arm numbers.  And the photo features their throwback/alternate jersey as well. It is rare that the RPAs have a photographic bonus, but here's one!

And there you have it!

Ice Time

19-20 Ice dropped a little over a week ago. I would have tried a box. However, for a second year in a row, the base cards aren't acetate. That is reason enough for me to go a couple years back with some 17-18 instead.
For some reason, I'm still unofficially working on the 1-100 base set for this. These, along with most of the others in this box, were needs for me. I'm still about 15 cards short, and those might be added to my set wantlist sooner rather than later.
While Ice Premieres are considered part of the base, I really don't plan to add those to the set. But these were the two I got here. Generally, the higher the expectations of the rookies, the lower the print run. Both these guys saw action last season, but it was Amadio who spent the whole season with the big club.
Sens content in the Sub-Zero inserts, but that White was a dupe. The Legend portion of this insert set is 1:60 packs, or 1 per case, so I did really well not only landing one, but landing a Gretzky.
Not the most impressive relic hit, as JFK is already back in Sweden. His Ice Premieres was numbered /499.
But the other rookie hit in the box - that's much nicer. Keller doesn't have the greatest penmanship out there, but the silver pen on a black background always looks nice on a card. And it is of one of the better young players in the league. It is a little hard to tell looking at the scan, but this is /25.

Definitely a winning box with the Keller and Gretzky!

More Credentials

I guess I kinda like the recent Credentials Contenders-ish release from UD. So here's another box!
I didn't get any Sens cards in the box, so I'll lead the way with a former Senator.
Here's four more base cards, from the numbered portion of the set. As with most of their numbered rookie base sets, the higher thought of a rookie is, the lower the print-run. So, in a few years I can look at this when MacEwen is the star and the others are in the KHL.
Parallels! Here's a red!
Here's an acetate. These are only used for some of the rookies, so they really can't be considered parallels in the traditional sense.
One more parallel, and this is the lowest numbered one I've landed in this. It can't be seen that well, but purple rookie parallel is /10.
The back of the card shows the writer might want to work on their homophones. Unless it really was in vein, which sounds painful.
Inserts! Here's the Rookie Science ones.
I was hoping the science would have something to do with restorative powers of soup.
And the Star of the Night inserts.
Here's a familiar insert from the first time through. It is interesting that I didn't get the unnumbered base version in either box, but I did get the /99 versions from both.
Here's a new insert. I figured a 'through the boards' insert set would feature a 'hard hits' theme, but nope, just another acetate. I wish they'd cropped the photo a little higher to create more of a look of actually looking through the glass.
My first box landed me an acetate auto redemption. This one should give an idea of what my Adam Fox will look like when it shows up.

A new insert, and an actual autograph that I don't have to wait for makes for a fine box.

May I See Your Credentials? - Part 2

Pack 5:
A bit of variety to start off this pack with a McDavid base card and an insert of his.
Here's one of this set's chase card. This is a thick metal card that weighed down the pack and was obviously contained within this pack. Good for pack searchers. This one is the gold parallel, which are the only parallels in this Steel Wheels insert set.

Pack 6:
This was the only regular Senators base card in the box, and the 50-card portion of the set.
While my acetate card in the first part of the box was a redemption, I did get a base parallel. Take off the bar code and the NSH/D/57 out, and add a signature and that is probably what the Adam Fox card will look like.

Pack 7:
Just another parallel of note in this pack. The red foil doesn't scan well on black, but this is /99.

Pack 8:
And the final numbered card.
I did mention the more generic science-y backs of the Rookie Science cards, so here's one of them to wrap up this box.

Great design throughout, and I'm happy I busted some of this. Please don't let this be a one-and-done product for UD. It is sorta similar in format to SPA, but the colour throughout the set makes it a little nicer, even if the auto content is a little lower.
