2018 Adventures in Repacks - Part 2.1 - Winter Baseball

Another year-starting repack, as I work my way through the first half of a Dollarama 80-card baseball repack (or Cartes de Baseball, if you're been reading Waitin' Til Next Year this week)
2013 Heritage - Domonic Brown - Let's start with some Heritage.
2013 Topps - Derek Norris - Probably the card I've got the most copies of in the 2/14 collection.
1988 Topps - Jose Canseco
1991 Fleer - Eric Show
1991 UD - Kirk Gibson
1993 Leaf - Melido Perez - Must scan back of '93 Leaf!
1988 Topps - Jack Lazorko

1991 Nolan Ryan - Mets content!
1992 Pinnacle - Fred McGriff

1994 Ted Williams - Cliff Floyd - Expos content! Sorta.
1988 Donruss - Larry Herndon
1990 Donruss - Glenn Davis
1980 Topps - Jim Beattie - The oldest card in this repack.
1992 Leaf Black Gold - Kevin Bass - A parallel. Somewhat unexpected.
1991 Fleer - Atlee Hammaker
1986 Topps - Alan Ashby
1989 Topps - Gregg Jefferies - A great pull by 1989 standards.
1988 Donruss - Rob Murphy
1989 Donruss - Rafael Palmeiro
1988 Score - Ken Oberkfell
1988 Fleer - Sid Fernandez - More Mets!
1990 Fleer - George Canale/Kevin Maas - Another card that would have been big at the time.
1987 Topps - Tony Bernazard
1989 Donruss - Hensley Meulens
1994 Stad. Club - Jeff Cirillo
1990 Donruss - Rick Leach
1989 Topps - John Shelby
2001 Donruss Baseball's Best Silver - Albert Belle - Another parallel.
1982 Donruss - Gary Roenicke - That mustache just screams "I own a Trans-Am and hang out by Baltimore junior high schools."
2010 Topps - Magglio Ordonez
2015 Chrome - Mike Foltynewicz - And Chrome ends it.

Some nice parallels, some team collection cards and some decent miscellaneous additions. That's a good start towards making it $3 well spent.

Crowned!

It was worth the wait for Canada Post to wait until the New Year to drop off my latest group break goodies. It had some Bills and Raptors in it, but I'll wait until Sunday to make an appropriate post for Buffalo. But the Raptors can be shown off now.
While hits are nice, my favourite part of Court Kings releases are the box toppers. There are versions with ink, but I'm just as happy with a great action shot done with Panini's (Gridiron/Diamond/Court) Kings filter. This is my 3rd Raptors box topper, joining a Stoudamire and a Caboclo. I love the photo shows him against the same Bucks team he dropped a team-record 52 points on for New Year's Day.
The Raptors earned 4 cards in the regular 100 card base set, and I landed all of them from the case. Given the background, I probably would have avoided the red uniform on the Ibaka.
Pascal Siakam got not only a base card in the set, but also an insert.
Only 35 points last night against Chicago? Has been!
The hits start with this simple swatch from Kyle Lowry.
And the hits end with the autograph of OG. I actually landed two of these, both from this subset. One to keep, one for the COMC inventory. Given I've now landed an on-card auto of his to join the stickergraph, and given his penmanship really isn't too memorable, I think I'd rather chase relics of his the rest of the way home.
I also got some cards from a partial case of Prizm. While I did get the team set, I didn't land any hits for the collection. Still, I like (and I might be one of only a few who do) that coaches showed up in this set. He just got named Coach of the Month in the Eastern Conference, so I figure his entry should be highlighted as well. This is my second card of Casey, as he also had one in 2012 Hoops.

I promise that tomorrow will be a Raptors-free post, after 3 straight with Raps content.

PWE Chronicles

3 PWEs! One sender! A trio of PWEs from Kerry @ Cards on Cards showed up yesterday, and now seems as good a time as any to post them. Even though I do have a larger, multi-post TMV/M bubbler to get to.
Although I busted 3 boxes of Hoops, I didn't land myself any of these inserts. I'm just going to assume they were retail exclusives. The lack of interest on the defenders indicate this dunk had to be after the whistle, which kinda kills the vibe on the photo. Still, a nice new card for my PC of the local product.
From the local kid to the local team. There's some more inserts that are likely retail only. And that's followed up with some somewhatshiny cards. I really love that the McGrady is done with the classic purple, with the jersey to match.
Shininess continues as you head down the road from the ACC to the Dome for three more Jays. Gurriel Jr makes his collection debut.
The only hits come from the Mets portion of the envelope. The DeGrom and Harvey on the bottom come from a 2016 National League All-Stars set, so they're somewhat oddball.

There you go! Thanks for these goodies, and I hope my latest package made it safely westward.

Envelope Catch-Up - Willinghammer Rising

I was going to this a couple days ago. My migraine (and repack love) felt otherwise. So, let's show off some of the goodies from a bubbler courtesy of Wes @ Willinghammer Rising.
There always seems to be a nice random hodgepodge of hockey in his envelopes, and this one was as expected. Gordie Howe is always a good choice to lead the way in a post, even moreso when it is a Houston Aeros card.
More vintage greatness on a recent card. The print run could be 70000 if it includes a classic image of Stanley.
In the first "This card looks better in hand than scanned" of the year, an Aurum of Doug Harvey.
This isn't quite as photographically vintage as the previous cards, but it does feature the Flying V, so is is still a great card.
Panini Anthology might not have been the best idea, but at least it gave them a chance to unload some stickers and for me to add a new Puempel to my Kitchener Rangers alum collection.
Hockey ends with an autograph for the 2/14 collection, as Petr Mrazek makes his 17th appearance in the collection.
Basketball starts off with this DeRozan from Totally Certified. Perhaps it was a better idea to wait to post this, so he can make his appearance coming off a team-record 52 point night.
DeMar's also here with a nice red swatch.
And a bunch of Topps Total ends it.

Thanks for all these goodies! I'm still waiting on a package from Panini with some Crimson Tide stuff, (since I'm also waiting for a different non-Tide replacement as well) and I'll forward those on when they show up.

2018 Adventures in Repacks - Part 1 - Startng the Year Right

The best way for me to commence another year here is with some Dollarama repacks!
Such as this one! And this had 5 items as opposed to the the typical 4.
Alas, there was a cost to the bonus item, as the Collector's Choice pack only had 4 cards as opposed to the usual 6. Since that did include a couple big names, a rookie and a parallel, I'll just assume the pack wasn't searched and it was just an error.
My Original 6 Pack team was the Rangers. And it was pretty much what I expected, except for that sweet Howell.
Pretty much what was expected from the 70s/80s pack as well, with a pair of 89s in each accompanied by a single card each from the early 80s. There's a new Dave Maloney for my Kitchener Rangers collection, even though it is not the most interesting photo imaginable.
One more! There must have been someone offering a good deal on those snap card holders outside repack HQ.
I can think of at least one person that would enjoy getting a quartet of Whalers from that Score pack.
3 out of the 4 cards in the goalie pack were mask binder worthy. That's all I ask. I also like the stretching on the Fernandez and Brodeur photos, as well as the stretch to call Blue a Great of the Game.
And the Premium pack. I'm not sure if this is the promised $5 in book value, but it did contain a couple shiny cards, an insert and a numbered rookie card. If you're going to (badly) photoshop a jersey onto Daniel Paille, you'd think they'd at least choose a less derpy photo.

But there you have it. Some nice repack keepers is a great way to open 2018.
